RUSTLERS,

Welcome back to the new semester! As I mentioned in my State of College presentation at the In-Service, we have many things to be proud of thanks to all of your caring and conscientious work. I hope you all are taking pride in our #20 ranking of 3732 two-year colleges nationally. That puts us better than the top 1%!

#20 in Best Colleges in All State

I mentioned the great academic results data for credit-bearing and ESL and HiSET, but I forgot to mention the good information we got from CWC Upward Bound. They are happy to report that they had 85% of their seniors go to college in the Fall of 2024! The students who did not enroll in college either enlisted in military service or gained employment.

Spring enrollment looks good with just a few days before classes start with headcount up 8% and course enrollments up 9%.

The new building project in Jackson is moving forward with plans to “move dirt” imminently. Expect a news release out on that any day. We also got a major gift for the building from an important Jackson benefactor. We also are receiving a lot of scholarship dollars from yet another donor. Once we work out the media desires of these kind souls, we’ll give you more details.

We will soon be opening a new road to the Alpine Science Institute in Sinks Canyon. It’ll be a quarter mile closer to town. Stay tuned for details on a grand opening. You’ll love the name of this road.

Our Metallica® Auto Program is the proud parent of a new baby dynamometer. And it’s a big baby! The photo below is during its installation, just before they put in the final panel covers. This dyno will allow our students to measure force, torque and other things and they’ll be able to bring vehicles up to great speed without driving dangerously on the highway!

The legislative session just started and many are projecting a wild ride. We are expecting bills relating to guns on campus, DEI, transgendered athletes, community college budgets and so much more. As in other years, we’ll provide updates at our All College Meetings.

Truly grateful to you all,
